Adelaide band Already Gone has been in the spotlight following the release of their debut EP, Get Back Home. With the EP receiving airplay and a #1 hit on ISA Radio, the guys have a lot to be proud of—but instead of slowing down and lapping it all up, they’ve been hard at work on a project very close to guitarist Staffy Lee’s heart. Staffy was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of 24. He thanks organisations, such as The Leukemia Foundation, for helping him conquer the illness. Wanting to give back to the organisation that helped him, Staffy pitched the idea of putting on a charity fundraiser show with Already Gone and other local acts. And so, Sticks, Strings, and Music Wings was born.
Cal Williams Jnr, Courtney Robb, AP D’Antonio, Lost Woods, Hannah Yates, and of course Already Gone are all included on the event’s stellar lineup. Each of the artists has had an experience with Leukemia or other forms of cancer in their families, so they were keen to jump on board to support the cause.
“I think we wanted to hold it at the Grace Emily all along, and George [the manager and co-owner] has been fantastic and really helpful with some great ideas about how to make it a really successful event,” Staffy says.
The fundraising target for Sticks, Strings and Music Wings is $1500, and Staffy reckons it’s definitely achievable.
“The thing is that we are not only talking about something that happens to older people; it happens to children, toddlers, babies, all the way up to the elderly. It affects a huge cross section of the community.”
“[The Leukaemia Foundation] doesn’t receive the government’s support, so without people trying to raise funds that support them, they can’t continue the great work that they do.”
Sticks, Strings and Music Wings is happening this Sunday 18th of June at Grace Emily Hotel, with $10 entry and some amazing raffle prizes up for grabs!
If you can’t make it, you can still show your support by donating to The Leukaemia Foundation here.
