Australians are in for a treat in February and March of 2018; Queen and Adam Lambert will return to Aussie shores for a five-city arena tour—their first since 2014. Fans can expect a new stage production and a special set list that goes beyond the hits.
Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth will all be included in the tour. However, the Adelaide date will be particularly special as it marks the first time Queen has performed in Adelaide for over three decades.
We predict that this year’s 40th anniversary of News of the World will influence the set list; the 1977 record was Queen’s biggest-selling studio album featuring legendary anthems ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘We Are The Champions.’
Drummer and co-founder of Queen, Roger Taylor is excited to bring a completely unique performance down under, “production has really changed a lot, the things you can do now, you have a much broader palette…” but despite the abundance of technology that’s readily available to artists these days, Roger insists on doing some things the old-fashioned way, “…we don’t use it all. We don’t play to click tracks. It’s 100% live.”
Guitarist Brian May confirms that although we’re in for a few set list surprises, we definitely won’t be robbed of the hits we know and love. “The general public knows the hits, so you’ve got to cater for that,” he says, “but we can chuck in a few things that people really don’t expect. We’ll do quite a bit more of that this time around. There are so many dimensions to Adam, which of course fits with our music. He can get down and do the rock stuff really dirty, and you have all those dimensions, and we can explore that even more.”
Queen and Adam Lambert first shared the stage for the American Idol final in May 2009. Their highly successful global partnership has driven them onto stages in every corner of the world, with the powerhouse team playing 90 different shows together. In the summer of 2012 they played their first full live shows across Europe, making their official debut in front of half a million people in Kiev.
If Queen and Adam’s last Aussie tour is anything to go by, we can expect sold out shows and stunning accolades from fans and critics.
