Until recently, bike shorts weren’t exactly on my list of fashionable must-haves. When I met Georgina Solomon (pictured at top) at the opening of her LASSKAA concept store my opinion was quickly changed by her quirky and funky take on the questionable trend. LASSKAA is a local Adelaide label with unique yet wearable designs to give any look a dynamic edge. When asked who the LASSKAA girl was, head designer Georgina Solomon laughed and said, “A baby me, so young at heart”. TEO got the chance to chat with the bubbly and energetic Georgina on the stairwell of her concept store amongst the madness. Listening to our recorded conversation later, I had a chuckle at the distinguishable compliments shouted into my iPhone recording us, including, “She’s so fashion!” – Kane Overall. During our lengthy conversation, Georgina explained the process of starting her label, pointed out her favourite pieces, teased upcoming collections and talked about working with the creatives behind Sticks and Stones Agency.
TEO: What has the response to LASSKAA been like in other states?
Georgina: It has been really positive and I’d eventually love to branch out to Melbourne and Sydney when the market is right. Currently Western Australia is doing so well and I did a sale in Perth recently, which had a great response.
What does a normal working day look like for you?
I just got a Husky puppy called Biggie Smalls, so my day usually starts with him. I’m all about healthy living, so that’s why I decided to get an active dog. I then go into my newly renovated city office that I share with Kate Andy (SIG the Label head designer) and do everything from designing to PR to running the online store. I’m really hands-on with my label.
What has it been like working with Sticks and Stones agency?
Sticks and Stones have been there from day one for me, putting LASSKAA on their platform. The best foot traffic comes through them because they have the LASSKAA girl following.
What is next for LASSKAA?
The High Summer range including swimwear will be dropping soon and it features Singaporean model Nadia Rahmatk who was in the Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2015 ads. In terms of exploring different markets, right now the online store works but one day the dream is to branch out to wholesale.
Where can we find you?
