Luxury rainwear is the best way to brighten a rainy day, and S Rush is providing the goods. The independent Australian accessory label drains raincoats of colour and fills them with nostalgic glitter instead. Designer, Susie Rush, embraces the beauty of slow fashion. Her background in millinery, combined with her then wet London location, saw her idea come to life. Now, she handcrafts the rainwear from rural Western Australia. Her collection includes: hats, bags and a raincoat—with the option to customise using your favourite glitter. TEO had a few fun questions for Susie to find out more about the quirky brand.

TEO: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what piece of the S Rush collection would you want with you?
Definitely a glitter rain sombrero to collect water and a glitter clutch to keep my phone dry. If I’m not going to survive, I’d like to be wearing space caterpillars—the latest to come out of S Rush—which will make me happy till the end!

If you could dress the cast of any TV show, which series would you choose?
The Bachelor, but I would have to have full styling control.

If S Rush was a song, what would it be?
‘I Can Make It Through The Rain’ by Mariah Carey. We like divas!

If it was an emoji, what would it be?
A caterpillar. Our headquarters have been taken over by space caterpillars. My dog has become the space caterpillar princess!

If it was a type of drink, what would it be?
A Bloody Mary.

If S Rush was a city, where would it be?
Kyoto—it was like a fairy tale.

If S Rush was a mythical creature, what would it be?
A Nargle.

If you could have anyone in the world wearing S Rush, past or present, who would it be?
Twiggy. S Rush would have loved to exist back in the ’60s—the perfect travel accessories for the jet age.

If S Rush was a candy, what would it be?
The hundreds and thousands that make the candy underneath more exciting!

If S Rush was a scented candle, what would it be?

What’s the best way to spend a rainy day?
Rain in WA is a novelty so it’s fun to get out in the streets. When it rains, it pours. Town usually floods, which is why you need much more than an umbrella! The full collection: a rain cape, rain sombrero, glitter clutch—and a small boat!

What is your go-to pairing with the S Rush rain hat and cape?
My bubblegum pink I Love Mr Mittens knitted cape dress, but it’s 30 degrees in WA at the moment so I can only wear it locked inside with the air-con cranked up!

You can find S Rush online and at the occasional pop-up market for lucky locals.
