For the first time ever, ethical retailer LUSH Cosmetics has partnered with activist group GetUp! to campaign for strong climate action from our country’s leaders during the 2016 federal election.

Leading up to the federal election, this Saturday, customers at all 29 LUSH stores across Australia are being offered an election card that provides information on how the major parties stack up in regards to addressing global warming and protecting the Reef.

Peta Granger, LUSH Cosmetics Director for Australia and New Zealand says, “Our government needs to stop propping up the destructive coal industry and make a fester transition from coal to renewable energy if the reef is to survive past the next five years.”

“At LUSH we believe in using the weight and influence of our business to affect social, political and environmental change. In the run up to the election we are campaigning alongside GetUp! to help the public make an informed choice about how their vote can best protect the reef.”

LUSH customers are being asked to pledge to vote for climate action instore by signing up to the GetUp! database. Customers will then receive in-depth information from GetUp! on what the major parties are doing to support positive climate action and protection for the Great Barrier Reef.

Mark Lincoln, LUSH Cosmetics Director for Australia and New Zealand says, “The Reef only has five years before the damage is irreversible, this is the last chance to elect leaders with a strong stance on climate action who will protect the Great Barrier Reef.”

“The 2016 federal election presents the most important opportunity for Australians to demand a clean energy future and to demonstrate that we care for the planet.”

LUSH is known to passionately mix campaigning with cosmetics. Their challenge and opportunity this federal election is to continue to drive broad scale demand on all parties for more urgent action on climate change and reduce the damaging influence far right politics is having on the issue of renewable energy, and protection for the Reef.
