It’s that incredible time of year when Adelaide begins to buzz with festivals and events both in and around the city. In the spirit of Italian Carnevale, last weekend’s theme definitely felt like ‘wine, dine and a good time’.
To get the fiesta vibes going, Coriole wines and the Producers Hotel hosted a splendid pop up cellar door event, Ciao Ciao, over two consecutive nights (Feb 5th and 6th). The event aimed to bring Italy into the city by showcasing Italian style food and wine in a Mediterranean wonderland, and boy did they deliver!
The Producers Hotel was transformed into a vintage garden with rustic trestle tables and floral decorations by the Oaktree. Adding to the Italian setting, vines were wrapped around poles, rosemary hung from the roof and in the back corner was a pizza wood oven. The beverage menu looked promising with some of Coriole’s finest 2014/15 wines, Peroni beer and a pop up cocktail bar.
Since the cuisine of choice was Italian, guests were definitely not going home hungry. Prepared by The Italian Kitchen, the dishes on the menu included: delicious antipasto boards, pumpkin arancini, gnocchi and veal polenta. However, the crowd favourite was the mouthwatering wood oven pizza. Though the serving style of takeaway boxes didn’t feel ideal, the taste of the pizza was bellissimo! The dough was thick with a crunchy crust and topped with the perfect amount of mozzarella.
Refreshing spritzer cocktails prepared by Thrift Shop were ideal for the warm summer night, while enjoying live entertainment from local performers. For dessert, creamy gelato choc tops from Gelista were offered at the low cost of $5 per cone.
All in all, the event was an absolute hit! It was a nice, relaxed evening with a splash of Italian culture right here in our beloved city of Adelaide.
