Following on from their third album Urn which was released in 2017, to the usual high critical acclaim Ne Obliviscaris have become synonymous with, the band has finally announced plans to tour the record around Australia. Fans will get the chance to see the monolithic tracks of Urn live for the first time, and also be greeted by a supporting cast comprised of some of the biggest names in tech death and progressive metal.
On the bill, there’s fellow Aussie prog-metallers Caligula’s Horse who will provide a softer, more rock-edged sound to the night’s proceedings. Then there’s Canada’s Beyond Creation who have built an incredible live reputation over three years of touring, and are sure to incite movement with their visceral tech-death sound.
Allegaeon are one of the more seasoned bands on the lineup, and audiences will undoubtedly be blown away by their expansive career trajectory—most recently highlighted by their record Proponent for Sentience which we reviewed here. Finally, at the start of this hugely heavy bill are Rivers of Nihil whose implementation of a broad sound palette takes a lot of influence from Ne Obliviscaris; their genre-bending new record Where the Owls Know My Name has been loved by fans and critics alike.
The Painted Progression Tour starts in Adelaide on the 9th of May, and promises to be a show no modern progressive or death metal fan can miss.
