[BAND-ON-BAND INTERVIEW] PSYCHEDELIC PORN CRUMPETS
by Kelly Lovell on Sep 20, 2018 • 6:58 pm No CommentsListening to Psychedelic Porn Crumpets is like going on a beautiful neon adventure—your body stays behind while your mind’s taken to remarkably disordered places you’d never imagine on your own. The four-piece psych-rock band from Perth are currently finishing off their sold out UK and European tour, and have just released their latest single ‘Social Candy.’ The track is a nebulous cloud of heavy guitar riffs and oozy mellifluous vocals. And to keep up the momentum, they’ll be heading out on their Social Candy Australian Tour in just over a week. The guys recently took some time out to put together a few questions to ask each other, and their answers may just surprise you.
What was the first track you heard that made you want to pick up a serious drug habit?
Luke Parish: Hypothetically speaking, if I had ever done drugs before, I would say ‘Uptown Girl’ by Westlife.
What future invention are you most looking forward to?
Danny Caddy: I’m looking forward to being able to shrink drums and then adding water or something to make them big again—travelling with drums in my pocket would be a game changer. In fact, dehydrating me and keeping me in tiny storage until I’m needed would be good too!
What’s your best tour moment?
Luke Reynolds: My best tour moments are playing shows in Melbourne; the fan base we have over there is incredible, not to mention the shows we’ve done. The Northcote Social Club show last December went off and I’m sure the show at The Corner Hotel in October will be no different!
Which three characters best describe ‘Social Candy’?
Jack McEwan: Tyler Durden, Naboo and Cheshire Cat—never afraid to shy away from madness and always keen for some mayhem.
Which city are you looking forward to most when we head over to Europe? And will you be upset if they don’t sell meat boxes?
Luke Reynolds: I’m looking forward to Hamburg, not only are we playing Reeperbahn Festival with other quality bands from Australia, and other parts of the world, but we’ll also be there during Oktoberfest—who’s up for stein?!
If you had the ability to body-hop through time and join any group, which band would you want to play in?
Jack McEwan: Has to be The Beatles during Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt. Pepper’s—those two albums are timeless genius. I’ve been more influenced by one year than the 50 that have followed.
